Pregnancy Care
Pregnancy care at WHF starts with your positive pregnancy test. Once you have a positive test, we can help establish insurance through Medi-Cal and schedule your first prenatal clinic visit. Every pregnant woman in California can get Medi-Cal insurance, and we will help you with the process so that you can come to the clinic without worrying about how to pay for it.
At your first visit you will meet with a trained health care worker who will explain the WHF prenatal program. Your next visit will be with a midwife. We also have a professional who can help with food, clothing, housing, or job needs. She can help you if you or your family is feeling stressed or emotional during your pregnancy. You may also see a nutritionist and a breast-feeding specialist. We will all work together to create the best plan for you to have a healthy pregnancy and a baby.
During your visits with us you will learn about how your baby is growing and have all of your pregnancy questions answered. We will talk about how the food you eat feeds both you and your baby-- we can plan a diet just for you and have a trained nutritionist who can help if you have diet problems during your pregnancy.
You will also learn all about labor and birth. All of our patients have their babies at Woodland Memorial Hospital, and we can help with transportation if needed. We will talk about what to expect when you bring your baby home. When you have your baby we can visit you at home to check that both you and your baby are doing well. That is also a good time to answer your questions and help you with breastfeeding. Then you will return to WHF clinic for all of your postpartum care for you and your baby. We can take care of your baby's medical check-ups and immunizations. We can also help you enroll your baby in an insurance plan.
At WHF want to give every baby a healthy start. That's why we want to make sure every baby receives the best possible care, even before birth. WHF is family-centered and provides individual support, education and social services for mothers, fathers and siblings.
