Specialist Referrals

Your primary care physician at WHF is trained to handle a wide variety of concerns and can provide most of your family's medical care. However, there may be times when you or a loved one need consultation or care from a specialist — a physician who treats only certain conditions, parts of the body or patients of a particular age group.

You and your primary care physician will determine together when a specialist is needed. Your primary care provider will arrange for care, sending medical history, diagnoses and other important information about you. WHF will continue to coordinate your care and will stay in close contact with the specialist. WHF does not "pass off" patients to specialists, but rather follows their care and continues to provide care after the specialist is no longer needed.
