The Community Clinics Initiative (a partnership between the California Endowment and the Tides Foundation) awarded us a grant in 2008 that allowed us to create this beautiful garden for our community. The garden was created in partnership with the City of Winters, who donated the land, and the Sacramento Area Community Garden Coalition who provided expertise in design and implementation. The garden is home to 40 plots where families join together to grow their own healthy, seasonal produce.

As a Community Health Center we work hard to provide services and resources that are needed in the community. In 2010 we partnered with the Mexican Consulate to bring a “Mobil Consulate” to Winters. The Mobil Consulate provides Mexican ID cards and Passports to Mexican Nationals living in Winters and neighboring areas. Transportation and missed work days are barriers that Winters residents face when needing assistance from the Consulate which is located in downtown Sacramento. The Mobil Consulate was a huge success serving 400 people.
In 2011 we will be an active partner in the new Winters Farm to School Program. We hope to provide assistance with organizing community volunteers and creating educational programs for children and families that will strengthen the success of Farm to School. WHF is committed to encouraging healthy living, improving access to fresh, healthy foods, and promoting a local food system. WHF invites anyone who is a home gardener, cook, baker, canner, jammer, or pickler to come and share with others in a community food swap. A crop swap / food share is an place where your backyard produce & homemade creations become your own personal currency for swapping with other participants.
No money is exchanged. Everything is homegrown or homemade.
The first swap will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 6-7pm at Rotary Park in Winters. If you are interested in participating or would like more information please email Ana Kormos: akormos@wintershealth.org
