The Promotoras, WHF’s “Sonrisa Vida Sana”, is a group of seven Mexican women who are leaders in the community of Winters. They are trained in outreach, diabetes education, reproductive health, adult, infant and child CPR/First Aid. They perform health screenings and provide health education at community events and health fairs. They are registered Certified Application Assistants (CAA’s) who assist families in enrollment in state and county health insurance programs.
In 2009 Winters Healthcare partnered with Woodland Healthcare and their “Your Life, Your Health” program in order to provide comprehensive health screenings and health education at all three of the Migrant Housing Centers in Yolo County. WHF provides follow up health screenings and education at all three sites, once every month, and refer residents to the clinic that is nearest them for continued care.
